MACH Dragonfly
MACH Dragonfly
This aircraft was our first aircraft to successfully attend and fly at competition. It was flown in the 2016-2017 competition in which it was designed to represent a tube launched Unmanned Arial Vehicle that would come out of a traditional missile tube. The requirements for this years competition were the following:
Have a rotating wing capable of storage in a tube with a length to diameter ratio of 4:1
Be able to carry at least three hockey puck “payloads”
Launched by being hand thrown into the air
Create a “launch” tube that is capable of withstanding drops with the plane undamaged inside
This aircraft did suffer major crash in the later rounds of competition when it unexpectedly nosedived into the ground. This was our first year attending competition and we were able to use it as a baseline of experience moving forward with future aircraft with techniques such as CNC routeing of wax, carbon fiber layups, our rib and spar wing design that now features on all our aircraft.
