MACH Flying Dutchman
MACH Flying Dutchman
This aircraft was designed for the 2017-2018 year of competition. The goal of this design was to design a simulated passenger cargo plane with minimal wingspan so as to be stored in a hanger. This was our most ambitious design to date with a blended wing body biplane being our final design. This competition year had the following criteria:
Carry the maximum number of bouncy ball “passengers”
Carry the maximum number of block “payloads”
Have the smallest total wing span
Launch and land on a typical runway
This plane never had a successful launch and landing in any of our test flight iterations. It thus never was brought to competition. From this aircraft, we learned a lot about the limits of our ambition and the restriction of low speed low altitude flight on the lift and control ability of craft like this. From this year we have refined our early design and testing phases to better reach flyable planes earlier.
